Lt. Col. Elgin Lodean Allmond

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Elgin Lodean Allmond transitioned from this life on Friday, March 25, 2022 in Fayetteville, NC. Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Elgin Lodean Allmond was born in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Calvin Percy and late Oretha Eley Allmond on September 26, 1948. He was the oldest of four children with surviving sister Carolyn Brinkley (Robert), deceased sister, Ellena Fisher and deceased brother, Marvin C. Allmond (Linda).

Elgin was educated in the public schools of Windsor, Virginia. He graduated Valedictorian of Georgie Tyler High School, Windsor Virginia in 1966. He graduated from Virginia State University with a BS in Mathematics and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps with a detail in the Infantry Branch. During his 28 years of service in the U.S. Army, he held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in key assignments which include Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Food Service Officer, Commander of a headquarters company, Battalion Operations Officer, Command Logistics Officer, Commander of a heavy boat company, and Division Support Command (DISCOM) Plans & Operations (P&O) Officer. Elgin was Chief of Force Management and Lesson Learned for the 22d Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) during the first Gulf War.

He graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in 1977 with a Master of Science (MS) in Logistics Management. LTC Allmond completed many hours of Advanced Studies at Chapman College at Fort Ord, California in Education and Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management and FIT at Fort Lee, Virginia. Elgin was a strong advocate for empowering African American Officers. He led local chapters of the ROCKS, Inc. at Fort Bragg, Fort Lee, Fort Jackson, and Korea. He sat on the ROCKS National Board. He is a recipient of both the Bobby Burke Award for Leadership and the ROCK of the Year Award. Elgin would share stories of folks he came up through the ranks with, deployed with or jumped with as they continued on into the general officer levels.

To know Elgin was to know his gift for storytelling and history. He never met a stranger. He loved to dance and was very generous with his resources and time. Elgin was a dedicated 50 plus year life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He served in various chapters stateside and overseas. To name a few, Elgin was initiated into Beta Gamma Chapter at Virginia State University; helped charter Nu Omicron Lambda Chapter seated at Fort Lee, VA; and held current membership in Epsilon Rho Lambda Chapter seated at Fort Bragg, NC. He served as President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Elgin was a Life Member of the ROCKS, Inc. where he served as a National Board Member, an Advisor, President, and Vice President of the James Webster Smith Chapter. Just like his service in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Elgin served both stateside and abroad in the ROCKS. He was a Prince Hall Free Mason and a member of The Society of Logistics Engineers (SOLE), NAACP, and Holly Grove A.M.E. Church, Windsor, VA.

Cherishing loving memories are: his daughter, LTC (Retired) Dana C. Allmond (Jon Wilson), Marana, AZ. His son, SSG Elgin L. Allmond, Jr., Columbia, South Carolina. Granddaughter Sydney Wilson, Ithaca NY and triplet grandchildren Aidan, Ciara, and Parker Wilson born on 11-11-11 who will be 11 this year. Uncle, Pernie D. Allmond, and aunt, Mary Allmond, both in New Rochelle, NY, and uncle, Curtis Eley in Windsor, VA. His long time, friend, companion, confidant, dance partner, and “Road Dog,” Dr. Jaunita W. Heyward, Fayetteville, NC. Also, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Elgin was a “Good Man.” A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00pm on Saturday, April 02, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
