In February of 1939 on the 21 st day of the month Will R, Wiggins, Sr. was born in the city of Smithfield, Virginia to his parents, Willie Lee and Easter Robinson Wiggins, their firstborn son. After sharing eighty-four years here with us, Wednesday morning, April 19, 2023, he had to answer his call to depart this life at Riverside Sentara Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia.
His youthful years and training were at home — first (train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it), from home to Bridger Elementary and then Isle of Wight Training School. After graduating from High School, serving two years in the
United States Army, he was employed and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company as a supervisor in the welding department for more than twenty-five years.
Diamond Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Calvin A. Lillard was where he attended his worship service.
Bowling was a favorite sport along with walking, listening to gospel music, singing, and volunteering at the Food Bank of Virginia. He was also a member of the Southernaires. He had a passion for people, loved to talk and spend his money on dressing — suits, hats, shoes, etc. and trying to look sophisticated.
Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Tempera A. Frazier and Iris R. Hall.
He leaves to cherish his life three sons Will Wiggins, Jr. (Etta) of Clinton, Michigan, Bryant Wiggins and Edgar A. Wiggins of Suffolk, VA, two brothers Gerald R. Wiggins (Von), of Suffolk, VA, and Cal R. Wiggins (Daisy) of Starkville, MS, three sisters Irnet Wiggins of Maryland, Evelyn Copeland (Lorenzo) of Suffolk, VA, and Grenda Wiggins of Alexandria, VA, one grandson Jermiah of Michigan, godchildren Danielle Saunders, Valencia Coston and Victory Hill, a faithful cousin Cornelius Wiggins and fiancé Delvina Diane Ward of Hampton, VA who was a loving, wonderful, caring, assisting, attentive friend — by his side any time he called. She was truly a friend to him and the family. Cherishing his life are other family members, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
