Wilbert transitioned from this life Tuesday afternoon, March 7, 2023 at the Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Wilbert Lee Drummond was born March 3, 1960 in Smithfield VA. He was the son of the late Robert Harden Jr., and Ida Louise Drummond.
Wilbert attended Smithfield High School in Smithfield VA. His childhood classmate and dear friend was George Greene. To Wilbert, George Greene was one of the best basketball players in the neighborhood.
Wilbert was employed at Smithfield Packing Co., PlymKraft Inc. (Newport News), Covan Moving Co. (Newport News) and Tyson’s Chicken Factory (Richmond, VA) each one of them for several years.
Wilbert enjoyed playing basketball, playing card games with his family and friends, playing his guitar with his brother-in-law, Bass Guitar Legend, The Late Larry Davis. His favorite football team was The Washington Redskins, now known as The Washington Commanders. But Wilbert’s most enjoyable hobby was Fishing and nothing gave him greater joy than teaching his son how to fish since the age of 5.
Wilbert leaves to cherish his memory his son, Wilbert Lee Holloway (Newport News), granddaughter Leilah Holloway (Newport News), sisters Shirley Phillips (Newport News), Carlotta Wilkins (Timothy) (Hampton, VA), Jewel Drummond (Newport News), Marie Harden (Baltimore, MD), Thelma Lee Artis (Pittsburgh, PA), Priscilla Mills (Dwight) (Suffolk) and brothers L.C. Harden (Kaye) (Suffolk), and Dennis Harden (Annie) (Suffolk), a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, his former wife Ruby Drummond and his dedicated friend Odessa Holloway (The mother of his Son).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 3-6pm at the chapel. Please keep the Drummond family in your prayers.
