Wayne Edwards, Sr. transitioned from this life on Thursday, April 03, 2025 in Suffolk Va.

First Sergeant Wayne Edwards, Sr. (70), a proud and dedicated member of the Virginia Army National Guard (Retired) - Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 111th Air Defense Artillery, 29th Infantry Division, entered eternal rest on April 3, 2025. Born on November 8, 1954, in Nash County, North Carolina, he later moved with his family to Smithfield, Virginia, where he attended Smithfield High School. He devoted over two decades of service to his country in the Virginia Army National Guard, earning numerous awards for his dedication, including the prestigious Army Commendation Medal. In addition to his honorable military service, Wayne devoted 24 years of dedicated service to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. from which he retired after a distinguished career.

Wayne was preceded in death by his loving parents, Shirley L. Edwards (2013) and Rufus T. Edwards, Sr. (2019). He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, resilience, and dedicated service. He is deeply mourned and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Bonita Edwards; his three beloved children — Andrea Jackson White, Wayne Edwards, Jr., and Dwayne Edwards; his two adoring grandchildren — Joshua Cordale White and Lauren Kennedy White; and his five siblings Joyce Edwards-Williams, Steven Edwards, Rufus Edwards, Jr., Kimberly Edwards, and Christopher Edwards. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.

As we honor Wayne's remarkable life, we celebrate not only his dedicated service to our country but also the love, strength, and warmth he shared with his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 3-6pm viewing will take place at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration on Life Service will be held 11am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Chapel. Interment will be held in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veteran Cemetery. at a later date.  Please keep the Edwards family in your prayers.
