Virginia Young Wilson entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, April 17, 2020 in Sentara Obici Hospital. Virginia was born May 18, 1929 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to her parents, Hurley Young, Sr. and Estelle Kelley Young. She married Vernon Wilson and to their union six children were born. For many years she served as the first lady beside her husband, the Rev. Vernon Wilson, who pastored Oak Grove Baptist Church in Petersburg and Pinewood Heights Baptist Church in Smithfield. She was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church. Virginia was a homemaker who loved plants, gardening, decorating, sewing and caring for her family. Her passion was cooking and feeding anyone who wanted something to eat in the neighborhood and beyond. She was known as the "rice pudding queen" because she gave her recipe to many. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her joy and heartbeat. She loved being in their presence telling stories of her experiences, going to yard sales, shopping, telling jokes and dancing around with them. Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Hurley and Estelle Young, sisters, Lois Allmond, Essie Young, Janice Allen, Lucille Baker, Daisy Young and Catherine Ricks; her daughter, Mary Goodwin Williams, and sons, Carl Wilson and Keith Wilson. Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband, Rev. Vernon Wilson; sons, Vernon Wilson, Jr. and Amos Wilson, Sr. and daughter and best friend, Charline Montgomery; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, Hurley Young, Jr. and John Earl Young; sisters, Helen Chapman, Mary Pittman, Joyce Ford and Lisa Young; daughters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins and friends. A private burial has been held and a memorial service will be held at a later time and date. Mrs. Wilson is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
