Virginia O. Edmonds

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, God called home one of His masterpieces. Virginia Oliver Haskins Edmonds was born on April 20, 1929 to the late Ross and Lucy Holloman Haskins, Sr. She was a graduate of Isle of Wight Training School and Paul D. Camp College. She was employed with the Southampton County Public School System for over thirty years as a bus driver and substitute teacher.

She was joined in holy matrimony to William Thomas Edmonds in 1952 and remained happily married until his death in 1991. They were blessed with two children: Jeanette and Michael.

Virginia, also known as" Dot", served as an organist for several area churches. She ministered at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church (Ivor), Shiloh Baptist Church (Zuni), New Branch Baptist Church (Ivor), Christian Charity Deliverance Church (Wakefield), Pocahontas Temple (Wakefield) and many others.

Dot loved flowers and music. She always had a smile for family and friends. You were always welcomed at her home.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Edmonds; sister, Cora Mae Bell; brother, James Haskins Sr.; sisters-in-law, Ruby Lee Haskins, Ellen Butler and Dorothy Holt; brothers-in-law, Rafford Bell, Cleveland Newby and James "Kilroy" Edmonds.

Mother Edmonds was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Ivor, VA and was the church mother. She also had been a faithful member of Christian Charity Deliverance Church, Wakefield, VA for many years. She held many positions and worked diligently and with joy in each one of them.

Mom leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Jeanette Edmonds Reid, Zuni, VA; son, Michael Edmonds (Janet), Chesapeake, VA; grandsons, Charles and Anthony Reid, Zuni, VA; sisters, Elizabeth Lee Newby, Ivor, VA and Dorothy Lee Parsons (Floyd), Newport News, VA and brothers, Ross Haskins (Louise), Zuni, VA, Richard Holliman (Helen), Ivor VA. She also leaves her In-laws, Vivian Lee, Joseph "Joe" Edmonds, John Hebert Edmonds Sr and Tessie Beale (Lawrence), Goddaughter, Louise Faulk, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many close friends, and dedicated caregiver, Wendy King of HCC Personal Care Inc

A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held 12 pm Tuesday, March, 30, 2021 at Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. 14165 Racetrack Road, Ivor, VA. 23866. Viewing will take place from 4-6pm Monday, March, 29. 2021. Mrs. Edmonds is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
