On Wednesday, January 28, 2015, Viola Edler Winfield, known to her loving family as "Vie", entered into eternal rest. She was born in Surry, Virginia on July 21, 1942, to the late James Alandis Edler and Margaret Spratley Edler. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Joseph Winfield, her husband, Joseph Klesmus Winfield, M.D. and one sister Jeanette Edler Byrd. At an early age, Vie was baptized and joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Surry, Virginia. In 1961, Vie graduated from Luther Porter Jackson High School in Dendron, Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Virginia State College and Master of Science Degree from the University of Maryland. After completing college, she received a Certificate in Geriatrics and began her career as a Director for Geriatric Care. She devoted her work to helping the elderly. Vie has made several contributions to her community. She volunteered her services as a pianist. Vie was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, sister, family member, and friend. Most of all, Vie especially cherished her moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cherishing Vie's memories forever will be her daughter, Angela L. Winfield of Danville, Virginia, two sisters, Peggy A. Edler-Mack of Silver Spring, Maryland, Rosalind K. Edler of Smithfield, Virginia, one brother, Graffie B. Edler of Surry, Virginia, three aunts, Mariah Edler, Surry, VA, Louise G. Edler, Surry, VA, Victoria S. Harrison of Petersburg, Virginia, four sisters-in-law, Gladys W. Hardy (Thomas) of Smithfield, Virginia, Susie G.Winfield of North Carolina, Evelyn Winfield of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Catherine Tearney of Bowie, Maryland, two brothers-in-law, James L.Winfield of Surry, Virginia and Eugene W. Winfield (Naydean) of Surry, Virginia, two granddaughters, Danielle A. Jordan of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Josephena A. Winfield of Surry, Virginia, one grandson, Raiheem S. Winfield of Surry, Virginia, and three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ayari, and Jordan. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, a host of special cousins and friends, among them a devoted and loyal friend, Michael Bailey of Smithfield, Virginia. A Graveside service will be held 12PM Tuesday Feb. 03, 2015 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Surry.Burial Date February 3, 2015
