On October 12, 2020, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Ursula T. Day slipped home from labor to reward.
Ursula was born to the late Clarence E. Tynes, Sr. and Ada Riggins Tynes on August 13, 1927 in Newport News, Va. She was one of twelve children. Ursula raised nine children while working at Smithfield Packing Company. She retired after 30 years of service.
Ursula's hobbies included flower gardening, cooking and baking. Her love for her family was shown in the delicious meals she prepared. The huge Sunday dinners that brought us all together to eat her famous cakes, pies and sweet potato jacks.
She was preceded in death by her son Clarence Overton Robinson and five brothers, James Tynes, George Tynes, Clarence Tynes, Albert & Alvin Tynes, five sisters, Emma Ingram, Clarice Tynes, Gladys Uzzle, Janette Tynes, Carolyn Davis.
She leaves behind to carry her legacy, her sister, Annette Thomas, five sons, John P. Day (Pamdora), Ursulus D. Day, Eley M. Day (Belinda), Walter H. Day, Reginald Day (Angela) & three girls, Marion D. Edwards (Willie), Larraine O. Cypress, Regina Day (Carl). A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren.
A Drive-in Celebration of Life Service will be held 1pm Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. The service will also be live streamed on Shivers Funeral Chapel Facebook page.
