Thurl O. Tynes, 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 peacefully in his home. He was born September 24, 1946 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to George and Lelia Tynes. Thurl has resided in the city of Newport News, Virginia since 1980. He leaves behind Doris Tynes, wife of 51 years and six children; Charles Lane, LaSonia Tynes, Thurl O.Tynes Jr. (Valerie Tynes), Kendra Reed (Thalmus Reed Sr.), Christopher Tynes, and Devin Baker. He has 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, two living siblings, George Tynes and Emily Ford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Thurl spent three years in the U.S Army, and was later employed forty-five years at Newport News Shipbuilding (Northrop Grumman).
A Celebration of Life service will be held 12pm Tuesday November 26, 2019 at Emmanuel Baptist Church 11150 Emmanuel Church Road, Smithfield, VA. Viewing will take place Monday November 25, 2019f rom 4-7pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.Burial Date November 26, 2019
