Thessieal Mae Copeland Liggins, 95, of Windsor, VA transitioned peacefully in her home on August 13, 2024. She was the last of her family to go home to be with the Lord. She was the daughter of the late Zackery & Maggie Rawls Copeland and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph “Papajoe” Liggins, her oldest son, Joseph “Huss” Liggins, Jr., and her grandson, Charles Benton, her, five sisters; Margie Copeland, Rosetta Cotton, Edna Hicks, Zella Mae Stevenson and Willie Essie Eley and her six brothers; Zack Jr., Andrew, Byrant, Dorpha, Floyd and Raymond. 

Thessieal Mae was married for sixty-six years to the love of her life, the late Joseph "papa Joe" Liggins. to this Union God blessed with seven loving and devoted children- Joseph Jr., Brenda, Linda, Edward, calvin, Vanessa and Keith.

Thessieal Mae was a loving, sweet and kindhearted woman who loved the Lord and her family. She was there to help everyone who needed her. To know her was to love her. She will be dearly missed. She was an active and faithful devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church and attended every Sunday until June 2024. She was a Deaconess, Pastor's Aide Member, a member of the noon Day Hour of Power, a member of the Wednesday Bible Expository, and former member of the Usher Board. She was the oldest active member in Shiloh, and with the most children. Deaconess Liggins was named "Mother of the Church" in which she was very proud of.

Thessieal Mae leaves to cherish her wonderful and Blessed memories to her Six special gifts from God (as she referred to them) Brenda Liggins (friend Waliyyuddin) of Hampton; Linda (Larry) Stokes of Zuni; Edward “Razzle” (Carolyn) Liggins of Suffolk; Calvin (Willette) Liggins, Vanessa Benton of Windsor and Keith (Tammy) Liggins of Windsor, VA.; one grandson they reared: Cory (Tanya) Liggins of Virginia Beach; three adopted daughters; Rosie (Andy) McCall of Pflugerville, Texas, Julia (Larry) Simmons, Sr. of Zuni, VA. and Audrey Simmons of Smithfield, VA; a very loving and devoted favorite nephew, Whitman Hicks, Jr, as she fondly called him "Lil Whit”; Special loving and devoted nieces/daughters; Barbara, Betty and Carolyn; sixteen grand Children, thirty-two great grand children and two great great grandchildren; two brothers- in law, Shirley Liggins (Margaret) of Somerset, NJ and Merritt Liggins of East Orange, N.J. ; four sisters-in-laws; Mary Smith, and Dorothy Blount of Smithfield, VA, Carolyn Smith (Peyton) of Cove City, N.C. and Sadie Copeland of Windsor, VA.; A very dear friend, Mrs. Jeanette Byrum and a host of nieces, nephews and loving church family. She would always end her conversations with “I Love You”

Viewing will take place Monday, August 19, 2024, from 3-6 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church 9000 Fire Tower Road, Windsor, VA. Interment will follow the service in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Please keep the Liggins and Copeland family in your thoughts and prayers.
