Shirley L. Jones

On Saturday afternoon, December 29, 2018, at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, our beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Shirley Jones entered eternal rest and peace. He was born June 11, 1946. He was baptized and joined the Emmanuel Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the public schools of Isle of Wight County graduating from Westside High School class of 1967. After graduating he was employed for a short time with Smithfield Packing Company before entering the U.S. Army. He served his country proudly until being honorably discharged.

After his military service, Shirley was employed by then Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company where he retired after forty-two years of service. Shirley was preceded in death by his wife Rosa B. Jones, his parents, and two brothers Jasper L. Jones and Arthur M. Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son Timothy Lamont Jones (Janelle), one grandson Destine Lamont Chatman, three brothers Raymond T. Jones (Mary), Frank E. Jones, and Edward Jones (Veronica), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends and relatives.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA with interment in New Jones Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Windsor, VA. Viewing will take place Thursday January 3, 2019 from 4-7pm at the chapel. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
