Quietly our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Shirley V. Bailey slipped away on September 20, 2020 after a short illness. She was born to the late Leslie and Georgia M. Shivers on February 5, 1939 in Isle of Wight County, VA. Shirley was married to the late Willie L Bailey, She retired from Gwaltney of Smithfield and was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, During her tenure at Little Zion, Shirley was president of the pastor's aide ministry until her health started to decline. She was also an usher, a missionary, part of the hospitality committee, years as a member of Mount Zion tent number 157, and attended Sunday school and Bible study regularly. She will be great missed by all who knew and loved her. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories three daughters: Deborah Colbert of Four Oak NC, Shelia Minniefield (Dwane) and Sherry Bailey of Smithfield, VA; four sons: Earl Moton (Joyce) of Windsor, VA, Melvin Bailey of Hampton, VA, Ronald and Terry Bailey of Smithfield, VA, One Foster Child: Margie Lewis of Suffolk, VA, three sisters: Evangeline Judkins, Patricia Spratley, and Margaret Parker of Smithfield, VA, ; two brothers, Leslie and Wilbert Shivers of Smithfield, VA, ; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, four sistersin-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends (Louise Haskins, Helena Urquhart, and Shirley Wells), and other friends. A Graveside Celebration will be held 11AM Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Baptist Cemetery. Viewing will take place Friday, September 25, 2020 from 4-6PM at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
