Russell Leon Finney

I fought a good fight, I finished my course, I kept the faith, now I have gained my wings.

On Monday April 29, 2024 Russell Leon Finney also known as “Pnutt/Duke transitioned into eternal rest surrounded by his family and three friends at Sentara Careplex Hospital.

He was born on September 20, 1965 to Stella Louise Finney and Russell Lee Finney. He was a long-time resident of Smithfield, Virginia then later moved to Newport News, Virginia where he resided with his daughter, grandchildren, and son-in law.

He was known as “Jack of all trades.” He loved to teach Karate (the infamous WUSU), cook, play the piano, sing and act silly.

Russell was preceded in death by his grandparents Thomas and Corine Diggs and Solomon Bernest and Eva Virginia Gholston Finney; his aunts Odessa Cypress, Frances Turner and Odell Finney; his uncles Thomas “Pig” Diggs, George Finney, Ernestine Finney and Johnnie ‘Po Bill’ Finney.

He leaves to cherish his memory his parents Russell and Stella Finney; his daughter Lachanda Womack and son-in-law Cletus B. Womack, Jr.; bonus daughter Ajel’e Holloway; his loving goddaughter Le’lani Holloway; his siblings Gerald Finney (Laverne), Shelton Finney (Delphia) and Craig Finney; his grandchildren Kamahje, Dale, Jayle Giles and Aleycia Womack; his niece Kimberly Bailey; nephews Jeremy Finney and Dominque Finney; his aunts Catherine Finney and Sylvia Thomas; his uncles Calvin “Boo Boo” Diggs and Otis Finney and extended family brothers Lance Holloway, Anthony Thomas, Lee Jones, Jr., Marcus Warren, Quinn Robertson, Travis Robertson, Antoine ”Oak” Diggs, Earl, Anthony “Fat Boy” Shears and Brian Shears.
