Rosa Marie Delk Shears Obituary
On Monday, October 30, 2023, God in his divine wisdom called one of his angels, Rosa Marie Delk Shears, to eternal rest at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center with her daughter Jennifer by her side. With a soft whisper he called her name and said, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
At an early age, she joined First Baptist Church, Waverly, Virginia until she met the love of her life and moved to Elberon, Virginia. She joined the True Apostolic Church and attended until her health declined.
Rosa attended and graduated from Central High School in Sussex County. She attended John Tyler Community College and received her Associate Degree. She retired from the Surry County Public School system in 2003 as an Instructional Assistant.
Rosa was known as Riti to her family and friends. Early in life she learned to share and show concern for others. She was a kind and generous person. She loved people and enjoyed family gatherings.
Her greatest role was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would always talk about them. They did everything to make her comfortable during her illness. She loved to cook and will be remembered by her upside-down pineapple cake and her other secret recipes.
She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Alease Delk, brother Jospeh and sisters Annie and Viola.
Rosa leaves to cherish her memory her husband of sixty years Joshua Shears, Sr.; two daughters Edith Key (Jerome) Waverly, Virginia, and Jennifer Brown (Gerald) Williamsburg, Virginia; two sons Joshua Shears, Jr. (Elberon, Virginia) and Joseph (Cynthia Hargraves) Hampton, Virginia; sister Jeannette Minor (Petersburg, Virginia); grandchildren Lamere Blackwell, Kevin and Jerkisha Langhorne, Xavier, Jerrel, Aaliyah, Jermaine (DaShonta), Jermaine Shears, Juvvah Brown and Charmaine Clairborne; eight great grandchildren; two aunts Carrie L. Gray (Waverly, Virginia) and Doris Adkins (Petersburg, Virginia); sister in-law Marie Young and two brother in-laws Elder Lawrence Jones and Nelson Archer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
