Rosa Ellis Moton

Mrs. Rosa Ellis Moton was born on October 22, 1922 of the late Charlie and Gracie Ellis in Surry County, Virginia. At an early age, she was baptized and joined Cypress Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she was a devout Christian. She loved leading songs of worship in the church and giving inspirational testimonies. She was a loving wife and mother to her nine children. She was a homemaker and her favorite hobbies were gardening, quilting, and cooking. In her community, she was well known for her missionary work. Wherever she went, she always made a friend. Her warm hearted spirit was infectious and people could not help but adore her. In 1996, she went to live her remaining years with her beloved daughter Olivia Barnes. After an extended illness, she went to her eternal rest on January 20, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Moton, Sr., two sisters, Annie Brown and Doris Evans, and three brothers, William Ellis, Joseph Ellis Sr., and Ulysses Ellis. Rosa is survived by one sister, Lucy Daniels of Dendron, Virginia; nine children, Barbara Morton of Washington, D.C, Richard Morton of Surry, Virginia (Viola Morton), James Moton of Petersburg, Virginia, Phillip Morton of Surry, Virginia (Lavonne Morton), Virginia Moton of Waldorf, Maryland, Beverly Moton of Mt. Vernon, New York, Estelle Moton of Washington, D.C., Olivia Barnes of Midlothian, Virginia (William Barnes), and Yolanda Ramlogan of Clinton, Maryland (Ramsarran Ramlogan); 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Loving and kind in all her ways, upright and just to the end of her days, sincere and true in her heart and mind, beautiful memories she left behind.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00PM Friday, January 26, 2018 at Cypress Baptist Church, Surry, Va. Viewing will be held from 4-7PM on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Cypress Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Mt. Moriah cemetery, Surry, Va. Professional Services are entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
