Smithfield Ricky Lavolia Brown of Smithfield, VA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Ricky was the oldest of six children, born on September 10, 1953 to the late William Benjamin and Theresa Purdy Brown. Also, Ricky was the grandson of the late Lorraine Tucker Purdy. As a child he was raised in Brown's AME Church where he sang in the youth choir; however, his current membership was at Dunamis Christian Center in Newport News, VA. In 1971, Ricky graduated from Smithfield High School and in 1973, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged after 3 years of active duty. Shortly thereafter, Ricky began working for Gwaltney Foods before becoming employed at Northgrop Grumman where he was employed until the time of his death. On August 31, 2014, he was united in holy matrimony to Vivian Green. Although Ricky had no biological children of his own, from previous relationships, he was a true father figure to Dana Barrack Jr., Tasheeka Turner, Breyani Valentine and Dorian Myers Jr. He was the Godfather to Tanisha Brown White and Eboney McKay. Ricky loved taking his boat out for fishing with family and friends; he loved cooking on his smoker and he loved riding his motorcycle. He also was a die-hard fan of the Dallas cowboys. Ricky leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Vivian Greene-Brown, his mother-in-law, Alma Green, Smithfield, VA; his father-in-law, Albert L Green, Smithfield,VA; two brothers, William Randall Brown (Flecia), West Bloomfield, MI, Troy Brown, Sterling Heights, MI; three sisters, Andrea DeCarlo Brown, Smithfield, VA; Phyllis Owens, Macomb, MI; Patrice Davis (Gerald), Hampton, VA; 3 brother-in-laws, Percy Moton, Smithfield, VA; Howard Moten, AZ; James Moten (Sheila), Smithfield, VA; 3 sister-in-laws, Leola Diggs (David), Smithfield, VA; Gloria Braswell (Cannie), Atlanta, GA; Shelia Hall (James), Smithfield, VA; two aunts, Marion Walker, Windsor, VA, Shirley Townes (Earnest), Smithfield, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. We, the family, humbly submit our hearts to him who is too wise to error and too just to be unkind.
