Rev. Sarah C. Hall

February 13, 1955 — September 16, 2017

REV. SARAH CELESTINE HALL transitioned from this earthly life to be with Christ on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at approximately 12:40 a.m. in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, VA with family members present. She was the ninth child born to the late Deacon Frank Amos and Eunice Marie Clark Hall and was born on Sunday, February 13, 1955 in Isle of Wight, VA. Rev. Sarah began her Christian journey at an early age. Her education included but not limited to that of the church's kindergarten school, Westside High School and Smithfield High School, graduating in June of 1973. Rev. Sarah was an avid reader of books and novels and doing word finds books. Her work experiences were numerous. She was employed at Golding's Shoe Store, baby sitter, domestic worker, a Burger King retiree, a family caregiver and chauffer. Rev. Sarah accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, was baptized and joined Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA. She was active in the Sunday school and as an assistant superintendent, the Sunday School Union, missionary, choir, Baptist Training Union, Junior Eastern Star (Demolays), Lebanon VA BAPT Association, Vacation Bible School and the Divinely Inspired Virtuously Anointed Women's Ministry. She further assisted with the church's homeless ministry, Souper Saturday preparations, the decorations committee and the senior luncheons. She was called into the gospel ministry, preached her initial sermon and received her license on the fifth Sunday in December 1985 under the leadership of Rev. Woodrow W. West, pastor. Rev. Sarah joined Miracle Temple Baptist Church Family where the Rev. Floyd M. Blackwell was the pastor in 1992. While there she was active in the parking lot ministry and was assigned to escort guest ministers to and from their automobiles into the pastor's study. In 2007, she reunited with Emmanuel Church and was assigned the title "Pulpit Attendant Minister." Rev. Sarah's memorable moments were being the Fifth Sunday Worship Leader. Her specialty was her gift of using words and gestures that brought much laughter among the parishioners. Many referred to her as being the "church comedian." Treasuring her memories are her siblings, Alexander J. Hall, Roberta H. Dark, John W. Hall, Paul D. Hall and Rev. Azrena M. Hall; nieces, LaKeisha and Monica Hall; great nephew KeShawn D. F. Hall; uncle and aunt, Felton G. Clark and Irene Cross Clark; and a host of cousins, relatives, friends and acquaintances. Special recognition of gratitude goes to Cousin Pearline P. Jones, Mrs. Ashley Beasley and Family, The Boy Scouts of America Troop 7, The Smithfield High School Band Boosters and many others who wish to remain anonymous. Rev. Sarah had a great love for her family, Pastor, First Lady, Church Family and other loves which may be omissions on our part. We celebrate in knowing that there is laid up for her a glorious reward of faithfulness because of what she endured.
