Palfus C. Batten Sr.

April 3, 1927 — September 7, 2020

Palfus (Patch Eye) C. Batten was called to his heavenly home on the morning of September 7th at his residence. He was born onApril 03, 1927 to the late Clem and Agnes Batten of Carrollton. Mr.Batten was married to the late Nannie Marie Bailey Batten for over 51 years. He joined Campbell Chapel AME Church at an early age. Even though he had strayed from the church, he made sure his children went. He rededicated his life to Christ and the church whole heartedly later in life. He joined Macedonia AME Church with his wife and children. He served on the Trustee Board and was a member of the Male Chorus; but helped wherever help was needed. Mr. Batten was educated in Isle of Wight County Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry. He worked several different jobs during his lifetime. He retired from Brown & Root Construction Company after being injured. He later worked at the Isle of Wight County Rescue Squad and drove dump trucks. He also drove buses for Isle of County Public schools and Parks and Recreation. Mr. Batten was a faithful member of the Nike Park Senior Citizens organization. Mr. Batten leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Palfus (Butch) C. Batten, Jr. (Glenda) of Newport News, and Tony E. Batten (Annie) of Sturgis Bay, WI; eight daughters, Paulette Batten of Newport News, Claudette Brown (Rufus) of Hampton, Agnes Thomas of Portsmouth, Saundra Jackson (Edward) of Fort Washington, MD, Marie Artis, Marcia Whitley, Geneen Jarvis (Carlton) and Deagra Small, all of Carrollton; 25 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great grandchild; two sisters, Rev. Deloris Wooten and Mrs. Mable Taliaferro, both of Carrollton; two brothers,, Dalton Batten (Sylvia) Smithfield, and Illinois Batten, (Barbara), Louisville, KY; and a nephew that was raised with him, Floyd Batten, of Petersburg; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Burial Date September 12, 2020

A Graveside Celebration will be held 11am Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Macedonia AME Cemetery, Carrollton, VA. Public Viewing will take place from 4-6pm Friday, September 11, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mr. Batten is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Batten family in your prayers.
