Otis Linward Jarrett, 72, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017. He was born the last of nine children on June 13, 1945, to the late Plummer Jarrett and Dollie Jarrett Greene. Otis began his adult life serving in the United States Army for two years. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he moved forward to begin his professional career with Newport News Shipbuilding, in Newport News, VA, where he retired after 45 years of service. Otis was preceded in death by six of his siblings, Hattie M. Blount, Ella R. Jarrett, Ruth N. Clayton, Nancy B. Carter, Thelma Mahmoud and Plummer Jarrett, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Steven Bynum (Kimberly) of Smithfield, VA; two daughters, Tiffany J. Dowden (Dwayne) and Brandi N. Jarrett both of Raleigh, NC; two grandsons Steven Bynum and Cameron King; his life-long companion and former wife, Joyce C. Jarrett of Smithfield, VA; one sister, Annie Cotten of Portsmouth, VA; one brother, William Jarrett of Smithfield, VA; a very close niece, Drucilla Goodman of Smithfield, VA; and a host of family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00pm on Friday October 13, 2017 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield Va. Viewing will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4-7pm at the chapel. Interment will be in the Church Of God cemetery, Zuni, Va.
