Odell Elizabeth Crawley Turner entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Odell was born on May 17, 1936 to Bessie Crawley Allmond (Lewiston “Blu” Allmond) in Isle of Wight County. Odell was affectionately call “Miss T” and by her sister Frances she was Turner. Odell attended Isle of Wight Training School. In her younger years, Odell was employed at Haynes Poultry Farm. She was employed by West Supermarket, Obici Hospital and Isle of Wight County Public schools. For forty-three years, she was a dedicated bus driver transporting a generation of children. Caring for others came natural to Odell. Shortly after retirement, she went back to Isle of Wight County Public schools as a bus aide. She pursued her dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist from Willie Whitney School of Cosmetology. She got plenty of practice doing hair with four daughters. Her early Christian life started in Muddy Cross Church which later became New Bethany Christian UCC. After marriage to the love of her life, Percell, she moved to Central Hill and joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she served on the senior choir, member of the hospitality committee, nursing guild and put on many different programs for the church. Odell loved to reminisce about chopping in the peanut fields, gardening, cooking delicious meals, sewing, going to the spring to get buckets of water and dressing for Sunday church, an enjoyable life bonded with her grandmother, Sarah Crawley, who called her “Puggie” and grandfather, Collins Crawley, on Old Muddy Cross Road. She would end with “oh what a time.” Preceding her in death were husband Percell Turner, daughter Stephanie Faye Turner and sisters Irene Allmond Cameron and Frances Allmond Tynes. Unforgettable memories will be cherished by daughters Schulyer Whitley (Elwood), Cynthia Kaye Turner (caregiver) and Valerie Parker (William); grandsons Jacobie Whitley and Damien Parker (Jessica); sister Sandra Allmond; god-daughter Thelma Scott; loving cousins Othelia Hendricks (Frank) and Marie Fulgham. Odell shared great love for the Ensley family, Holloway family in Southampton County and her beloved Central Hill Community. Her memory is now our keepsake which we will never part. God has her in his keeping. We have her in our hearts. She was a Queen. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church Windsor, Va. Viewing will take place from 2-5pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the chapel. Please keep the Crawley-Turner family in your prayers.
