Odell Hill Pierce

Our beloved, Odell H. Pierce, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023 as she surrounded by her family. Odell was born on October 17, 1935 in Isle of Wight, VA.  She was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Fannie Mae Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Herbert M. Pierce, Jr., her son, Joseph, and her brothers Jerome, Ernest, and Curtis Hill.

She was united in marriage to the late Herbert M. Pierce, Jr. on December 17, 1955, and together they had six children. Odell graduated from the Isle of Wight Training School and worked for Smithfield Packing after graduation. She was a member of the Smithfield Congregation Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Odell enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She made an impression on those she loved with her thoughtfulness, words of wisdom, sense of humor, musical taste, love of daytime television along with watching and reading the daily news. She shared her hairdressing skills with family and friends. A perfect day for her would include ice cream, a can of Pepsi, being with family and an opportunity to express her quick wit.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Herbert “Murphy” Pierce III (Sandra), ValeriePierce White, Thelma O. Pierce, E. Elaine Pierce, and Shawn L. Pierce (Pam); daughter-in-law, Esther Pierce; grandchildren, Herbert IV “MJ” (Sharda), Siera, Rodney, Ashley, Tiffany, Stephen (Chelsey), Britney, and Devan; great-grandchildren, Adaisha, Ahmodd, Camden, Terrell“TJ”, Timothy, Nylah, Deja, Kingston, Alaniah “Lani”, Elijah, Jayanna, Emery, Kennedi, and Charles; her sister, Augusta Williams; her aunt, Vert Hill sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Hill; brothers, William, Thomas “Pernell” (Ann), and Alphonso (Shirley) Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Shivers Funeral Chapel.  Viewing will take place Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 3-6pm at the chapel. Please keep the Hill-Pierce family in your prayers.
