Mildred Shivers Tynes

Mildred Octavia Shivers Tynes passed away on Saturday March 4, 2023 at her residence in Woodbridge, VA.

 Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite her pain, Octavia stayed true to the end, never complaining.

Octavia was born the third daughter to Mills and Gracie Lee Shivers in Smithfield, VA on October 15, 1948. She was educated in Isle of Wight County School System. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Octavia was a quiet soul. She will be remembered for her strength and resilience. Octavia worked for thirty- five years at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Octavia lived her life in accordance with the Lord and because of this she was called from labor to eternal reward. She is free at last!

Octavia was preceded in death by her parents, Mills and Gracie Lee Shivers, her daughter Sherry and her sister Catherine Shivers Hill.  Octavia leaves to mourn her passing but rejoice in her peace, her loving husband, David Jr., her son David III, her granddaughter Kaylyn, her grandson Tyler, two sisters; Vivian Shivers and Ida Shivers Henly, sister in law Mary Mason, spouse Earl; brothers in law James Walter Tynes , spouse Vanessa and Tyrone Hill and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Berry Hill Road, Smithfield, VA. Viewing will take place on Thursday, March 09, 2023 from 3-6pm at the chapel.
