Mildred Jackson Holloway

November 8, 1937 — March 7, 2025

Suffolk

Mildred Jackson Holloway, 87, of Suffolk, VA, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on November 8, 1937, in Suffolk, VA, she was the beloved daughter of Lucille Mizelle and Lloyd Jackson. In 1957, Mildred married the love of her life, McKinley Holloway Sr., affectionately known as “Peewee.” Together, they created a life full of love and joy, raising seven children: Sandra, McKinley Jr. “Kenny” (Pamela), Sharon, Kimberly (Spencer), Monica (Steve), Veronica, and Harriet.

Mildred dedicated many years of service as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher at Little Bethel Baptist Church. She was also a dedicated cafeteria worker at Oakland Elementary School. Her passion for family and life shone brightly in everything she did—whether it was completing challenging jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, or cooking meals that brought her family together. Above all, Mildred’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a nurturing presence in their lives, raising her children with love and playing a key role in caring for and babysitting her growing family. Each grandchild and great-grandchild held a special place in her heart.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband McKinley Sr, her parents, and her brothers Michael and Keith. She is survived by her seven children, her cherished brother Floyd “Sonny” Mizelle (Mary), her brother-in-law Joseph Holloway, 16 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members. Each of whom will carry forward her legacy of love, devotion, and strength.

Mildred’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her love for her family will continue to guide and inspire them.

The family kindly requests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America in memory of Mildred, as she bravely fought against the disease in her later years.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. At 11am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, a Celebration of Life will be held at Little Bethel Baptist Church Suffolk, VA. Please keep the Jackson-Holloway family in your thoughts and prayers.
