Michael A Gray

November 14, 1958 — May 3, 2016

Michael Anthony Gray was born on November 14, 1958 at Louise Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. He joined his Heavenly father Tuesday, May 3, 2016 after a short illness at the same place he began his earthly journey; Louise Obici Hospital. He was the youngest child born to the late Isaiah and Beatrice Gray of Wakefield. To his family and closest friends he was affectionately called "Keenkie", a name given to him when he was born because of his thick, curly black hair. Michael attended Ellen W Chambliss and Waverly High School and accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at Union Hill Church of Christ in Sedley, Virginia. He rededicated his life to Christ in the presence of family during his illness. He enjoyed a diverse employment history over the years working for the Highway Department at various state sites and also at the Pottery in Williamsburg, Virginia. Keenkie was an avid fisherman and enjoyed socializing with family and friends, especially if there was a card game going on. He enjoyed a wide variety of music and was a big Barry White fan. One of his favorite songs was "Never Gonna Give You Up" which he not only enjoyed, but made certain the entire neighborhood enjoyed it too. Another of his favorite songs was "A Change Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. While he enjoyed life, loved his hobbies and socializing, what he loved most was his sisters and brothers and he reveled in his role as the "Baby" of the family. He adored his family and kept his nieces and nephews laughing at his antics and "take no prisoners" larger than life personality. Michael leaves to cherish his memory four sisters; Shirley White and Lora Gray of Wakefield, Virginia, Mary G. Cofer (Lenny) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Audrey Brown (Carl) of Hampton, Virginia, a close family friend; Lorenzo Turner, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
