Martha Marie Williams affectionately known as "Pulley" was born in Isle of Wight County, Virginia on March 31, 1937 to the late Marie Brown and Raymond Pope. She was married to the late Wiley Purcell Williams Jr. and to that union were born nine beautiful children. "Pulley" attended Isle of Wight County Public Schools. She was employed with Smithfield Ham Products (Smithfield Packing) before relocating to Baltimore, Maryland. Once settled in Baltimore, she became a care giver until she returned home to Smithfield in December of 1995. At which time she was devoted to spending time enjoying life with her family and friends. "Pulley" was known for her welcoming smile, and giving heart. "Pulley" was a faithful member of the Christian Home Baptist Church. In the early morning hours on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at 9:15 a.m., Martha slipped away to be with the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons Willie Redds Williams and Lyn Percell Williams; two daughters Eulanda S. Williams and Gloria Johnson; brother Edmond Pope; and brother in law Eddie Woodley. She leaves to cherish two daughters Meeta Williams of Smithfield, Virginia and Deborah Williams (Katia) of Baltimore, Maryland; three sons Wiley McCoy Williams (Christine) of Baltimore, Maryland, Van R. Williams of Smithfield, Virginia and Michael Williams (Cookie) of Smithfield, Virginia; two grandchildren whom she adopted and reared as her own Alyssia Crump (Byron) and Kweisi Williams; sister Clara Woodley and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren who loved her dearly, nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. A Drive In Celebration of Life will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place from 5-7 p.m. Monday April 27, 2020 at the Chapel.
