Martha L Allmond Liggins

Martha Louise Liggins Allmond, 84, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2016. She was born on February 22, 1932 to the late Paul O. Liggins and Laura Batten both of Isle of Wight County Virginia. She passed quietly during her sleep at the family home in Windsor, Virginia. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Baker Hardy Allmond and infant son Baker Jr. Martha attended and graduated from Isle of Wight Training School and attended Norfolk State College and Paul D. Camp Community College. She completed Keys Business School in Hampton, Virginia. Martha worked as a Teacher's Aide for Isle of Wight Public School for more than 20 years. As an active member of New Jones Grove Baptist Church, she exemplified her faith, where she served as a Deaconess and was always willing to help others. As a member of the Lebanon Virginia Baptist Association, she served as the Head Registrar. She was a member of the Eastern Star-Daughter of Salem Lodge. Martha's Legacy was her love of children and teaching others. She was a proud member of New Jones Grove Baptist for 60 years. Martha is survived by her son Mark H. Allmond (Cheryl) of Glen Allen, Virginia, daughter Vanessa Allmond Hayes (Vincent) of Richmond, Virginia, and daughter Angelia Allmond Cosby of Hampton, Virginia; Grandchildren Micah L. Cosby, Tiffany V. Hayes, Laura-Ashley Hayes, Rio Cruise-Ross; and Great grandchildren, Mykea Cosby, Jonyae Cosby, Malachi Hayes, Zamya Cosby, Jayden Washington, Jordan Washington, and Desmond Hicks. Martha and Baker's house was open to all and was fortunate to be the host parents to: Eunice Shears, Bobby Holloman, Catherine Ricks, Patricia Jarratt, Vanessa Hinton., Veronica Byrd, Samuel Choice, and Rhonda Liggins. Martha is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held 12 noon on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at New Jones Grove Baptist Church, Windsor, VA. Viewing will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4pm - 7pm at the Chapel. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
