Louis “Wallace” Blizzard was born May 5, 1951, to St. Louis and Fannie Blizzard in Petersburg, Va. He graduated from L.P. Jackson High School in 1972. Wallace was a child of God; devoted husband; loving father and grandfather; and a faithful brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
He was a member of St. Mark Holiness Church for most of his life where he served faithfully. He later attended Jerusalem Baptist Church where he sang in the Men’s Chorus.
He worked at the Newport News Shipbuilding as a welder for 30 years until his early retirement. He often shared many stories from days with coworkers at the Shipyard, where he was affectionately known as “Blizz.” He also worked part-time as a security guard for Surry County Public Schools for over 20 years until his health began to decline. He enjoyed working at the high school’s athletic events where he engaged in two of his favorite hobbies: talking to people in the community and cheering on teams during the various sport seasons.
He had many loves. He loved football, especially his Pittsburg Steelers. He loved fast vehicles and often talked about the “Duster” he owned in the 70s. He loved making people laugh and brightened up every space with his sense of humor and presence. He laughed intentionally and often. But what he cherished most was his family. He loved being in their presence and could never spend enough time with them. He truly never met a stranger and will always be remembered for his gift of easily connecting with people through conversations and encouragement. He called everyone he met “my friend.” He was always eager to assist others in their time of need, whether he had known them for years or for one hour.
He was preceded in death by his parents, St. Louis and Fannie Blizzard. He leaves his legacy of love and laughter to his wife of 47 years, his “Bread Pudding,” Andra; beloved daughters, Jennie, and Tiffany King; son-in-love Bernard; and precious granddaughters Symone and Sydney King. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Linda (Jarvis) Ellis, Sharon Blizzard, Rena (Horace) Parker, Debbie (Glenn) Price, Tammy Thorb, and Ann Jones; his brothers, St. Louis Blizzard. Jr. (Karla) and Tyrone Johns (Robyn); sister-in-law Nannie Britt; and brother-in-laws, Hugh Jr. and Carcenus Payne. He also leaves behind many, many, nieces, nephews, an aunt, cousins, and extended family and friends who he treasured.
