Linnon E Tynes

April 25, 1932 — December 23, 2016

On Friday, December 23, 2016, our Heavenly Father called home the soul of our beloved one Linnon E. Tynes. He peacefully transitioned into the kingdom of Heaven at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Portsmouth, VA. A native of Smithfield, VA, Linnon was born April 25, 1932 in Isle of Wight County to the late John F. Tynes Sr. and Lillian Wilkerson Tynes. Linnon attended Isle of Wight Training School and furthered his education by attending Portsmouth Public Schools night classes, receiving his G.E.D. Linnon was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, attending regularly until his health failed. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army and after 3 years of service, received a National Defense Medal. He worked for the Naval Supply Center in Norfolk, VA, receiving numerous awards of recognition. He retired from the Naval Supply Center after 35 years of service. Linnon was a family man with words of wisdom for all who came in contact with him. In addition to his parents, Linnon was preceded in death by five brothers: John F. Jr., Harry, Walter, Dempsey, and Lewis Tynes; and two sisters: Bernice T. Kea and Carrie Tynes. Linnion leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of sixty years, Queen Grandison Tynes,twodaughters, Barbara T. Hardy (McDaniel, Sr.) of Portsmouth, VA and Ida T. Atkins (a sibling whom he raised) (Shirlie) of Smithfield, VAand a son, Lawerence Tyler of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, McDaniel Hardy Jr. (Rock) and LaKeisha Hardy (Keisha Baby) both of Porstmouth, VA; three great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He also leaves behind to mourn his lost, siblings William M. Tynes (Francis) of Smithfield, VA; Robert E. Tynes (Terry) of Portsmouth, VA; DorisT. Gwaltney of Smithfield, VA and Linda T. Williams of Smithfield, VA as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 12:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, Va. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 4-7PM at the chapel. Interment will be in the Emmanuel Baptist Church cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 12:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, Va. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 4-7PM at the chapel. Interment will be in the Emmanuel Baptist Church cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
