Julia Marie Grandison was called home on Monday, June 20, 2022, after a brief illness at the age of 89 at Bon Secours Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, VA . Born on January 29, 1933, Julia was pre-deceased by her father Willie Hill, her beloved mother Marie W. Hill, and her two brothers Willie James Hill and Robert Earl Hill.
Born in Isle of Wight County, VA, Julia attended both the Smithfield and Portsmouth school systems, and went on to retire from the Navy Exchange in Norfolk after 31 years of dedicated service as a Food Sales Supervisor.
Joining the church at age 12, Julia was an active 77-year member of Campbells Chapel A.M.E church. Throughout the years she served as a dedicated usher, choir member, missionary and stewardess.
Julia enjoyed the outdoors, she loved spending time in the garden, feeding the birds, and in her early days fishing. She was an excellent cook and took pride in preparing meals for her family and friends. Julia loved talking on the phone to her friends and relatives and you could hear her laugh throughout the house.
Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Julia a single mother to her 3 children worked hard and instilled a strong work ethic in her children as they grew. She spoiled her grandchildren, very rarely saying no to their various requests. She delighted in her great grandchildren who lovingly called GG. She was blessed to watch them grow and took pride in all of their accomplishments, proudly displaying pictures of them throughout her home.
She leaves to cherish her memory her 3 children, Jennifer M. Thomas, Deborah Williams (Glenn), and Vernon Grandison. Her 4 grandchildren Nicole Elie (Yakeema), Vernon Grandison (Altovise), Randy Grandison and Deidra Williams. As well as 6 great- grandchildren, Nia Elie, Bryce Elie, Amerie Grandison, Iya Grandison, Oni Grandison, and Alayah L Dixon as well as a host of relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 am Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Campbell Chapel AME Church, Carrollton, VA. Interment immediately following the service at Campbell Chapel AME Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place from3-6 PM Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel
