John Milton Shivers

John Milton Shivers 85, transitioned into heavenly rest in the comfort of his residence on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was the son of the late Willie Sr. and Flora Jenkins Shivers, and widower of Ida Ford Shivers after 56 years. Graduating from the 1951 class of Isle of Wight Training School, he was called to the United States Army. A community activist for most of his life in Isle of Wight and surrounding counties, he was best known as a servant of God, family and others. John joined the Little Zion Baptist Church, Smithfield early in life and remained faithful there until 2000 when he decided to assist his son in kingdom building at Solomon's Temple, Smithfield. He leaves behind a daughter, Kathy S. Greene (Thaddeus) and son Kim D. Shivers (Edith). 6 Grand-children; Jessica Smith (Marcus), Tobias Greene, Zachary Robinson, Kayla Battle, Kinston Shivers and Seniah Cypress. 5 Great grand-children; Tavion, Kristiana, Kaiden, Kori and Kai. 3 siblings; Doritha Wellons, Rosa L. Robertson (Lawrence) and Willie Shivers Jr. (Gloria). 4 other brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins with no endingto love him as a meek and god fearing man. The Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00pm Monday, January 16, 2017 at Little Zion Baptist Church, Smithfield. Public viewing will be held at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm with family and friends reflections from 4:00pm - 5:00pm.
