Irene C. Clark

Irene C. Clark departed from this life peacefully on June 18th 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on November 26, 1931 to parents John and Etta Cross of Gates, NC. She was the youngest of 9 children.

She met the love of her life and was quickly swept off her feet. She married Felton G. Clark of Suffolk, Virginia on January 6, 1948. They settled in Surry County and began their lives with raising a family and managing a farm. Irene became a devoted wife to Felton and a very loving mother to 15 children. Her husband was called into the ministry years later and Irene took on the role of caring for the church and nurturing all whom crossed her path.

Irene loved cooking, sewing and gardening. She helped tend to the farm and was brilliant with harvesting and canning food for her family. She was an excellent seamstress and tailor made her families clothes. She taught her children all of her passions and skills. She enjoyed laughing and watching funny shows/movies. One of her favorite past times was sitting her children around her feet and reading stories from the Bible and other story books. She was instrumental in instilling her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, into her children. She loved the Lord and taught others how to love God and pray.

Irene was predeceased by her late husband Felton, oldest daughter Hazel and youngest son Darrin. She leaves behind 13 children, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We will always carry memories, of our precious mother, in our hearts.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at the chapel.  A Celebration of Life will be held 12pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow the service at the F. G. Clark Family Cemetery, 1685 Burnt Mill Rd., Surry, VA 23883. Please keep the Clark family in your thoughts and prayers.
