On August 25, 2003, the Most High our heavenly Father called Howard Lee Johnson tohis heavenly home. Our son, brother, uncle, godfather and friend has been set free. Rejoice Howard is free of the pains of this world.
He was born December 28, 1966 to the late Clarence Delbert Johnson, Sr and Mary Robinson Johnson. He was fondly called ”Wood” by his close friends. He loved and was loved by everyone who knew him.
Howard was baptized at Little Zion Baptist Church and gave his life to Christ at an early age. Howard was a member presently at The Gathering Church of Christ in Petersburg, VA. He attended the Isle of Wight County Schools System. He ran track for Smithfield High School Track Team. He attended PD Pruden for Food Services. Howard graduated from John Yeates High School. He attended Anthony’s Barber College. He studied Professional Truck Driving at Swift Transportation Truck Driving School and received his CDL License. He worked at Mookie’s Barbershop. Howard worked for several trucking companies after being licensed including CR England, Early Trucking, VLH Transportation, INC and Massimo Zanetti Beverage, USA. Prior to his health decline, he was last employed with Continental Terminals.
Howard’s favorite team is the Pittsburg Steelers and his basketball team is the North Carolina Tarheels. His interests were sport, drawing, cooking, spending time with his family, reading and studying the Bible and sharing the word of the Most High to others.
Howard is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert Lee “Sam” Johnson and Elnora Blount Johnson; his maternal grandparents Howard D. Robinson and Agnes Edwards Robinson, father Clarence D. Johnson, Jr. and niece Katrina M. Brumskin.
Howard leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted mother Mary Robinson Johnson; his siblings, James Wallace Dorsey, Ernestine Walls both in New Jersey, Clarecine Powell (Caleb, Sr.) Jacksonville, FL; faithful brother in law, Bishop James Arthur Blunt (Vera) Marilyn Black, Davina Holmes, Joyce Eaton and Doris Johnson; three godchildren, Brian Shears, Jr. “Junior”, Davina L. White (BuggVina) and David A White, Jr. “DJ (Hero)-Thunderfoot and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11AM Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Friday, September 1, 2023 from 3-6pm also at the Chapel. Please keep the Johnson family in your prayers.
