Reflection of Life For Henderson Davis Jr.

Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Henderson Davis Jr., 73, entered into his heavenly home. Henderson was born to the late Charles Henderson Davis and Mornell Davis on March 29, 1941. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Rossie L. Davis. He leaves to warmly cherish his memory his wife, Jonie Ann Davis of Carrollton, VA; four children, Melanie Bowden of Carrollton, VA; Ronald Robinson (Brenda) of Stafford, VA; Lisa Puryear (Steve) of Smithfield, VA; LaVerne Spratley (Frank) of Smithfield, VA; three sisters, Marian Lee Goodwin of Smithfield, VA; Missouri H. Batten (Ernest) of Carrollton, VA; and Della Mae Seward (John) of Smithfield, VA. He leaves to treasure his memory seven grandchildren, Nakia Bowden, Angelique Bowden, Roneisha Robinson, DeLisia Puryear, Jessena Robinson, Ronald Robinson Jr., and Brendan Robinson; five great-grandchildren Khalia, Carrington, Amaury, Ayriss, and Ayron; and a host of other relatives and friends. Henderson was a native of Isle of Wight County. After 34 years of service, he retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) as a Supervisor. He worked well with his hands and enjoyed spending most of his time outside working in his garage, performing lawn care duties, and planting his annual vegetable garden which was available to anyone in the community. If individuals were physically unable to come and gather food for themselves, he felt it was God's mission for him to gather it and deliver it to them so all could be blessed by his harvest. Until his illness, Henderson was an active and faithful member of Campbell's Chapel A.M.E. He was a devoted member of the Trustee Board, Men's Club, Male Chorus, Sunday School, Bible Study, and the Cemetery Beautification Committee. He assisted in the construction of the handicap ramp with Milton Wiggins and lighting for the church grounds with his brother Rossie. He was a hardworking man and willing to help anyone.
