Gracie Williams Ruffin

Gracie Lee Ruffin departed this life to claim her eternal rest and peace on July 30, 2017, while in ICU at Obici Hospital. She was born on October 19, 1937 in Southampton County to James and Virginia Williams. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and attended both Saint Luke and Union Hill United Church of Christ. After marriage, Gracie Lee Ruffin attended Chapel Grove where she would spend the rest of her years worshiping. She was a custodian for Isle of Wight Public Schools until her health begin to fail. She also worked as a private caretaker. Ms. Gracie was a soloist, and she enjoyed going to different churches singing. She also loved to cook and worked at many restaurants. Ms. Gracie enjoyed preparing meals for her family, friends, and the whole neighborhood; her house was affectionately called Gracie's Diner. Ms. Gracie is preceded in death by her parents, James and Virginia Williams, three sisters, Rebecca Harris, Rosetta Williams, and Edna Myers, one brother, James William, Jr., a devoted husband, John Casper Ruffin of 33 years, and a daughter, Ella Ruffin. She leaves precious memories of one sister, Audrey Ann Williams, and one brother Arthur Lee Williams, two daughters, Mary Shearrin and Margaret Stokes (Rev. Roy A. Stokes), three sons, Laverne Ruffin (Gwen Ruffin), Cassell Ruffin, and James Ruffin (Rosalind Ruffin); eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Florence Carr; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, Windsor, Va. Viewing will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the chapel. Interment will be in the Chapel Grove United Church of Christ cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, Windsor, Va. Viewing will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the chapel. Interment will be in the Chapel Grove United Church of Christ cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
