On Saturday, June 4, 2022, God called home one of his angels, Ms. Gloria Laverne Diggs. Gloria was born 9 out of 10 kids to the late Perlie McKindley Diggs and Lucy Bell Todd on March 24, 1956. Gloria was a Smithfield native and was educated in the Smithfield School System. She graduated from Smithfield High school in 1974. She was employed at Gwaltney plant for about 30 years. After that, she was well known for her cooking at her time at the store Tom & Jerry’s. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church in her younger years. As she got older she attended Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church and later returned to Little Zion and attended there until her health began to decline. Her faith was what carried her through her illnesses; she never felt discouraged because she knew God was going to get her through. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Perlie Diggs and Lucy Todd; her sister Brenda Diggs Tynes, and nieces Melissa Paulette Diggs and Sharonda Yvette Diggs. She was very quiet and never had to say much, but her presence was enough to put smiles on those that were around her. She was known for being at all the family functions and cookouts and being the first and last one on the dance floor. Gloria leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Sheldon Lamont Diggs and Vincent Austin Henderson; one granddaughter Genesis Rain Henderson; eight siblings Willie R. Todd (Alberta), Dorothy Brown (George), Thelma Diggs, Cynthia Diggs, Perlie Diggs (Alice), Helen Simpson (John), Martin Diggs, and Audrey Cram (Richard), and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. She also leaves a very special friend, Elsie Turner. Her spirit will forever live on and be remembered by all those that were around her A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00am on Thursday, June 09, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take from 3-6pm on Wednesday, June 08, 2022 at the Chapel. Please keep the Diggs family in your prayers. View Memorial Video
