Gladys M Johnson Howard

Gladys Marie Johnson entered into eternal rest on March 29, 2016 at Consulate Health Care in Windsor, Va. She was a native of Newport News, Va. and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Howard. She was once a devoted member of Ferguson Grove Baptist Church in Surry, Va., but later attended First Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Rushmere, Va. For many years she worked for the owner of Tasty Freeze in Smithfield. She will always be remembered for her daily joy rides around town. One of her favorite quotes was "A bushel and a peck and a hug around your sweet neck". She was preceded in death by her three brothers; Willie Cooper, Linwood Howard and Russell Howard.Left to cherish her memories, brother; Eugene Howard (Odell) of Newport News, Va, three sons; Sterling Johnson Jr. (Yoshie) of Japan, David Johnson of Smithfield, Va., Bernard Johnson of Dillwyn, Va., two daughters; Evangelist Ruth Batten of Smithfield, Va., Nancy Pugh (James) of Portsmouth, Va., step-daughter; Elaine Swift (Albert) of Norfolk, Va., seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burial Date April 3, 2016

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:30pm Sunday April 3, 2016 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield. Viewing will be held Saturday April 2, 2016 from 2 - 5pm at the chapel. Interment will be in the First Gravel Hill Church Cemetery.
