In Memory
On Sunday, February 4th, our precious mother and grandmother, Gladys M. Robinson was called home. To her children and grandchildren, she was perfect in every way—a gorgeous, elegant, dignified, and intelligent woman with so many gifts, who was fiercely devoted to her family. There was no sacrifice too great for her to make for them, and she continued to think of her children and grandchildren before herself until she took her last breath.
Gladys was a steady, compassionate, and wise matriarchal figure for not only her kids and grandkids, but for her younger siblings, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends into her later years. There was no one who found themselves unwelcome at Gladys and her late husband Burrell’s table or a member of the community to whom they wouldn’t lend a helping hand when they needed it. Gladys was born in March of 1937 in Sussex County, Virginia where she joined New Hope Baptist Church.
She later became a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Surry, after marrying her late husband Burrell Robinson, Sr. Not long after becoming wed, they built a house in Surry that she has made a home for her family for the past 68 years. She retired from Fluor Daniel Construction, a contractor with Dominion Energy, in 1999 but, continued to work there periodically for years afterward. Gladys was a materials procurement specialist at Fluor Daniel.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Oliver Venable Moore and Alice Maria Moore, as well as her eldest brother James Moore and his wife Jessie Moore, who raised her from the age of three due to her mother’s illness. Her brothers, Jimmy Hoover Moore, Charles Nehemiah Moore, and Carroll (Bob) Moore are also deceased. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Burrell Robinson, Jr. (Sonny); daughters, Carolyn Robinson Taylor (Gonzolus) and Veronica Lynne Robinson; grandchildren Jennifer and Garrett Taylor; siblings William Moore, Maria Tompkins, Edna Lowery, Mary Peebles, Katie Gray, Erma Mabry, and Joanne Parham; sisters/nieces Norma Winfield and Elaine Williams; sisters-inlaw Queen Martin and Laura Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
