Geraldine Butler Johnson

Mrs. Geraldine Butler Johnson departed this life to claim her eternal rest on January 25, 2018 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born February 25, 1952 to Joe Alfred and Dorothy G. Butler in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Geraldine, affectionally called "Sis" and "Gerald" grew up in Smithfield and attended Smithfield High School. After high school Geraldine was employed at West Supermarket and attended Tidewater Community College and received a degree in Business. She was employed at Colonial Williamsburg for many years. She was later employed with Williamsburg/James City Public Schools where she retired in 2014. 

She was a faithful member of Chickahominy Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Geraldine was preceded in death by her father, Joe A. Butler Sr.; husband, James Booker T. Johnson, Jr.; and mother in law, Rosa Johnson. Her memory will be forever cherished by her mother, Dorothy G. Butler of Smithfield; two brothers, Joe A. Butler Jr. (Alvanett) of Smithfield and Daniel B. Butler (Lisa) of Petersburg; father in law, Booker T. Johnson, Sr. of Williamsburg; a special Granddaughter, Angel Washington (Perry) of Williamsburg; two aunts, Alice Jones of Norfolk and Lucy Ann Robinson (Collins) of Petersburg; three nieces Anita Martin of Suffolk; Alicia Lashley (Jason) of Hyattsville, MD; and Ebony Butler of Richmond; one nephew Cordaryl Butler of Hampton, two great- granddaughters and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 

The dates for the services of Mrs. Johnson are as Follows: Funeral Celebration: Thursday February 1, 2018 1pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Burial: Friday February 2, 2018 12pm at Williamsburg Memorial Park. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
