The Life of Geraldine Bowman

Geraldine Marise Bowman 73, former resident of Smithfield and Franklin, Virginia, passed away Thursday July 25, 2024, at Riverside Hospital, Newport News, Virginia. 

Ms. Bowman was born August 10, 1950 to the late George Sydney and Lillie Blount Bowman. 

Geraldine was a devoted lifelong companion to her surviving fraternal twin sister Earline Morietta Bowman. She also has another sister Joyce Bowman. 

Geraldine attended Union Bethel Church with her father and at times attended Little Zion Baptist Church with her mother, both in Smithfield, Virginia.  

Geraldine received job ready skills in Newport News and enjoyed going to work. 

In January 2005, she moved to Joy Haven Adult Home where she lived for nineteen years. She enjoyed shopping and always insisted that her hair was fixed. Geraldine loved talking to people and was known for her questions. 

She is survived by her guardian Mr. Charles E. Green, resident caretaker Mrs. Shona Whitfield-Sykes, and a host of cousins, relatives and devoted friends.

On Thursday August 01, 2024 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Friday, August 02, 2024 at the Chapel.  Interment will follow at Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Berry Hill Road, Smithfield, VA.   Please keep the Bowman family in your prayers.
