George W. Finney

George Willie Finney went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, February 2, 2022 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. George was the second oldest of seven children born on July 25, 1943 to Solomon Bernest Finney and Eva Virginia Goldston in Smithfield, VA. He was educated in the Isle of Wight County School system. George decided to put down his roots in Smithfield. He became a lifelong resident of Smithfield. George was known around town for his infectious laugh and conversation. He never met a stranger. To his family he was known as a provider, a hard worker and a great dad. George worked at Smithfield Packing Company for over 35 years, retiring in 1995. George enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking and gardening. He enjoyed watching his favorite team “New England Patriots.” George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Johnnie W. Finney and Earnesteen M. Finney, sister Virginia O. Finney, first wife Rebecca Finney and daughter Jeanette Finney. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Victoria A. Finney, children Corey L Finney of Newport News VA, George T Finney, Veronica Sumblin, Siietta Council (Randolph) all of Smithfield, VA, Jacqueline Clark (Quintus) of Windsor, VA, Sabrina Bedford (Charles) of San Antonio, TX; brothers Russell L. Finney (Stella) of Carrollton, VA and Otis E. Finney (Mabel) of Newport News, VA, sister Sylvia F. Thomas of Smithfield, VA; aunt Josie Marie Usher (known as Aunt Ann) of Hampton, VA, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00pm on Monday, Feb. 07, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel BY INVITATION ONLY. Viewing will take place on Sunday, Feb. 06, 2022 from 2-4pm at the chapel.
