Frances Blizzard Taliaferro (82) was born on July 19th, 1942, in Surry County, Virginia to the late Mr. Robert and Mrs. James Alberta Blizzard. The second of three children, Frances was known as a kind-hearted and caring person who accepted Christ at an early age. After graduating from L.P. Jackson High School, Frances later married the love of her life, Norman M. Taliaferro, Sr. The two would celebrate 49 years of marriage, both as husband and wife, as well as business partners.

A former certified nursing assistant and Virginia Tech VPI Extension Agent, Frances had a passion for helping others. With a heart for community service, she managed an assisted living home for adults for nearly a decade. Afterwards, she continued service to her community through dedicated philanthropy, as a long-time member of the Sociables Club, and her work with creating affordable housing. However, above all, her greatest devotion was to the Lord. A dedicated member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Frances delighted in serving an abundance of manners, but especially reveled in holding her position as Chair of the Missionary Ministry for two decades. Remaining faithfully supportive to her church family was one of her highest priorities.

Preceded in death by her husband, Norman M. Taliaferro, Sr., her parents, Robert and James Alberta Blizzard, and her sister, Thelma Blizzard. Frances will be remembered by her closest family and friends for her warm-hearted generosity and lovingly “bossy” ways. 

She is survived by her children: Norma F. Taliaferro-Leigh of Smithfield, VA and Norman M. Taliaferro, Jr. (Maria) of Suffolk, VA, and her grandchildren: Francesca Leigh-Davis of Hanover, VA, Tiffany Roberts (Jason) of Silver Spring, MD, Antonio Leigh of Smithfield, VA, Aishia Taliaferro of Miami, FL, and Tierra Taliaferro of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived and remembered by a beloved host of great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. At 10am on Saturday, November 9, 2024 a Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church Surry, VA.  Please keep the Blizzard-Taliaferro family in your prayers.
