Essie Lee White

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, God called our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend Essie Lee White to her heavenly home. She was born on November 20, 1941 in Southampton, Virginia to the late Linwood and Mattie Edwards. She attended L.P. Jackson School.

Essie worked at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company for years before their relocation. From there, she went on to work for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

She was a member and stewardess at Mars Hill A.M.E Zion Church, where she attended faithfully until her health began to decline.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mattie Edwards, father Linwood Edwards, brother Robert Lee Edwards, sister Martha Newby, son Randy L. White, and great grandson TyQuan Johnson.

Essie leaves to cherish her memory husband Melvin L. White of sixty-four years; four children Melvin M. White (Evon), Kenneth D. White (Melvanette), Kelvin L. White (Carol), and Angela W. Luster (Carlton); fifteen grandchildren Katina White, Marvett White, Reginald Crudup, Staci Blizzard, Kendra Berry, Tiffany White, Kevin White, Keon White, Kenneth White, Jr., Desman Grain, Montel White, Korey White, Kailah White, Mechelle Luster and Jessica Luster; eighteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two brother in-laws Ralph White (Martha) and Melvin Saunders; three sister in-laws Shirley Robinson (William), Jean White, and Lucille White and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Oak Grove Baptist Church Wakefield Va.  Viewing will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 3-6pm at the Chapel.  Please keep the Edwards-White family in your prayers
