Elder Earnest Roosevelt Hardy, Sr., 67, of Surry, VA, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 17, 2017, at Riverside Rehabilitation Institution in Newport News, VA. Born on September 27, 1950, Elder Hardy was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Rev. Debris and Carrie Hardy of Surry, VA. He was known as "Turkey" and "Turk" to many of his family and friends, and as "Shotgun" to others. On April 19, 1970, he married Zelma Bowden of Battery Park, VA, a union that lasted until her death in February, 2006. On June 12, 2010, he married Barbara Peyton of King George, VA. In 1982, he was called as a founder and pastor of the Tree of Life Church in Surry, VA, where he served as pastor until March, 2016, after his health began fail. Those who love him will always cherish his memory. He leaves behind his wife of seven years, Barbara Peyton Hardy; a devoted daughter, Stelita H. Newby (Eric); two sons, Earnest "LT" Hardy (Tanya) and Malchus Hardy (Tamara) all of Surry, VA; nine grandchildren, Jolita N. Raboteau, Erin Newby; Khalil, Jada, Zaria, Brittney and Mahki Hardy; Chaque Henderson and Derrica Booker; one great grandson Malakai Raboteau ;one Godson, Justin Ellis (Kristina) of Suffolk, VA; four sisters, Pattie White and Sarah Jones of Hampton, VA and Carrie Swarn and Louvenia Flood (Frank) of Surry, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and community friends. A homegoing service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 22 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Surry, VA. Public Viewing will be held at the church Tuesday evening from 3:30 - 7:00p.m. Family, friends, and other community members are invited to share reflections beginning at 5:00p.m. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
