Edna Jones Cary

June 25, 1941 — July 8, 2024

Edna J. Cary 83, departed this life peacefully in her home on July 8, 2024. She was born June 25, 1941 in Southampton County Virginia. She attended Isle of Wight Training School and graduated Class of 1959.

Edna accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of The New Jones Grove Baptist Church in Windsor, Virginia. She remained active there until her health began to decline. In her free time Edna enjoyed attending gospel singing events and watching judge shows, especially Judge Joe Brown. She always said that if she had the opportunity, she would have been a judge herself.

Edna began employment at Gwaltney Meat Packing in 1961 and remained a loyal employee for fifty-two years. During her time at Gwaltney, she often spoke of the many friendships and connections she made with co-workers, young and old. As many people valued her advice, wisdom, and honesty. And even if it came with an edgy tone, you knew it was rooted in love. Although many friendships were made at Gwaltney, the greatest of these is the connection she made with Curtis Cary. Edna and Curtis worked together for many years until their friendship blossomed into companionship and love. Edna and Curtis got married on March 13, 2006 and they remained together until the Lord called her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents Virginia Jones and Willie Jones; her daughter Virginia J. Butler; six brothers James Jones, George Jones, Luther Jones, Williams Jones, Johnie Jones, and Leslie Jones and two sisters Ella Bailey and Maggie Major.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband Curtis Cary; daughter Rhonda Liggins; son in law Daniel Butler; granddaughter Ebony Butler (Crista Henderson); grandson Cordaryl Butler; great-granddaughter Heiress Haskins; great-grandson Ahmir Butler; four devoted bonus children Ronald Cary (Sandra), Curtis Cary, Jr. (Jackie), Milton Cary and Rita Cary; seven bonus grandchildren Jasmine Cary, Jeramie Cary, Shanta Bynum (Raphael), Amber Cary (DJ Mullen), Chantella Cary, Curtisa Cary, and Jameka Cary; two sisters Beatrice Edwards (Shirley) and Mary Warren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
