Earnesteen McDonald Finney

March 20, 1952 — December 22, 2021

Earnesteen McDonald Finney, affectionately known as “Teeny Man” and “Ernie”, went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, December 22, 2021 at Penn State Medical Center in Hershey, PA after having battling cancer for a number of years. Earnest was the youngest of seven children born on March 20, 1952 to the late Solomon Bernest Finney and Eva Virginia Goldston in Smithfield, VA. Earnest was the baby of the family and the favorite child of his father, who let you know Earnest was untouchable and “off limits” to any sibling rivalry – “spoiled” is a better word for it. He was educated in the Isle of Wight County Public Schools System until the 11th grade after which he joined the Job Corps and received his G.E.D. (General Education Diploma). After leaving Smithfield, VA, he became a lifelong resident of Harrisburg, PA and kept in touch with his family on a regular basis. Earnest dearly loved his family and his family was always there for him. Earnest was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Johnnie William Finney and his sister, Virginia Odell Finney. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: a devoted sister, Sylvia F. Thomas of Smithfield, VA; three brothers, George Willie Finney (Victoria) of Smithfield, VA, Russell Lee Finney (Stella) of Carrollton, VA, Otis Eugene Finney (Mable) of Newport News, VA and sister-in-law, Catherine Diggs Finney of Smithfield, VA; a special aunt, Josie Marie Usher (affectionately known as Aunt Ann) of Hampton, VA; a special friend, Jenette Still of Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. The Family would like to extend “Special Thanks” to the staff of the Penn State Medical Center in Hershey, PA, the Hospice Care staff, Pastor Alexander Bracey, III and the First Gravel Hill Baptist Church Family, Pastor Lucy S. Robertson, Bro. Bolden Bradby, and the staff of Shivers Funeral Chapel. May God’s blessings continue to be upon you. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 4-6pm also at the Chapel. Mr. Finney is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Finney family in your thoughts and prayers.
