Earnest Albert Godwin, Sr., resident of Isle of Wight County, passed away on December 10, 2018 at Riverside Convalescent Center at the age of 86 years old. Earnest was born January 10, 1932 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was the youngest of two children to Cecil and Cornelia Batten Godwin. He was raised in the church and knew to be a servant of the Lord at an early age. He completed his public education at Isle of Wight Training School and soon enlisted in the Army. He served in the US Army for two years and returned home to start working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice School. He took pride in his career and helped hundreds receive a trade or other opportunities with the shipyard. Earnest loved his church, Campbell Chapel AME Church, and his family. He was a diligent member of the Lay Organization, took pride as a Trustee, and Sunday School. For years, he served as a voice and face for Campbell's and represented the church at many conferences across the country. Along with his love for his church, he loved fishing with his sons and grandsons, traveling with his buddies, and completing his word search puzzles during moments of relaxation. He was preceded in death by his parents, children- Earnest Albert Godwin, Jr. and Patricia Godwin and sister Emma Lee Johnson. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Roxie D. Godwin; children-Bobby Godwin, Vincent (Louis) Godwin, Darryl (Kathleen) Godwin, Sr.; grandchildren- Keshia Godwin, Leah Godwin, Tony Godwin, Ericka Godwin, Kyle Godwin, Darryl Godwin Jr., Danielle Godwin, Allen Godwin; and great-grandchildren Maya Jones and Che Mullins, his church family and other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Saturday December 15, 2018 at Campbell's Chapel A.M.E. Church Carrollton, Va. Viewing will take place Friday December 14, 2018 from 4-7pm with a wake service from 6-7pm. Professional Services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
