Dorothy R. Glover

June 16, 1930 — December 25, 2022

Mrs. Dorothy Edith Ricks Glover, 92, affectionately known as “Friss” and even more affectionately by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family as “Nana”, quietly slipped from this earthly realm into everlasting life on Christmas Sunday, December 25, 2022. After a long illness, Nana was invited to Jesus’ birthday celebration in heaven and now is amongst the angels praising God to the highest.

Nana was born to Dorothy M. Porter Ricks and Alivia Ricks on June 16, 1930. Having lost her mother at the young age of two, she and her brothers Floyd and Lloyd were raised by her grandmother and aunts. She was educated in the Windsor, VA public school system and graduated from Smithfield Technical School in 1948. Not too long after graduating, Nana met the love of her life, Samuel Edward Glover from Chuckatuck, at what she described as “some singing” at Little Bethel Baptist Church. After a short courtship, she and “Sammy” as she called him, were married in March of 1950. Nana and Sammy’s (or Chief) union produced four children --Samuel Edward Jr., Elton Dwight, Glenda Elaine and Kendra Renita. Nana put her all in all into raising her family and taking care of her husband and children. After raising her children and after Chief retired, Nana spent a lot of time in Richmond and Northern Virginia visiting and helping with her precious grandchildren, especially when school closed for the summer. Folks would often see Nana and Chief getting ready for a road trip with her under the wheel and him on the passenger side going to pick up the grands. Early in her life Nana joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Windsor, VA and after marrying united with the Christian Home Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Solomon Diggs. Nana and her husband Samuel served as deaconess and deacon at Christian Home for many years, and she was honored to become Deaconess Emeritus in 2007.

Nana was preceded in death by her husband Deacon Samuel Glover and oldest son Samuel Jr., brothers Lloyd and Horace Ricks and sister Gloria Ricks Carter, but leaves to cherish her memory her son Elton (Antoinette), daughter Rev. Glenda Baul (William) and daughter Kendra; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Glover six grandchildren: Sharonda Glover, Rev. JeQuan Baul (Allieson), Jamaar Glover, Brandon Glover-McLeod, Jarren Glover and Jayla Baul; eight great-grandchildren: Tanae McCoy, Earl (EJ) Reid, Jamaya Glover, Jaliah Baul, Donovan Glover, Kennedy Glover, Kendall Glover, Azariah Baul and Baby Baul (expected in May 2023); brother Floyd Ricks, Brother-in-Law Dr. Bernard Glover (Juanita) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Christian Home Baptist Church Windsor, VA. Viewing will take place. Friday, December 30, 2022 from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Ricks-Glover family in your thoughts and prayers.
