Dolly (Saunders) Williams, 83, of Smithfield, VA passed away on February 10, 2024. Her loss was completely unexpected; leaving her family and friends profoundly saddened.
Dolly was born on May 28, 1940, to the late Ernestine Horton and Sleepy Saunders in Accomack County, Virginia. She was one of 16 children. Dolly obtained her education in the Accomack Public School System.
In 1972, Dolly married the love of her life, the late Leonard E. Willams and moved to Smithfield. There she became an active member of Christian Home Baptist Church and booster mom for the Smithfield High School football team. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, singing, taking care of her house plants and spending time with her family.
Dolly was an exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her husband, children, grandchildren, and countless others. She was vibrant, and radiated light.
She leaves behind to morn her death her children Rita Williams, Lisa Williams, Gloria Sessoms, Love Drummond and Lucky Drummond, bonus children Leon Drummond (Helen) and Judy Drummond ; her grandchildren Nikkia McCalla, Marcus Williams, Kevin Williams, Toya Solomon (Aukeaus), Jamarcus Perry (Muricia); her great grands Andrew Riley and Jamarcus Perry Jr. and her goddaughter Monica Wertz (George); her brothers, Otto Saunders, Lawrence Vernon Saunders and John Thomas Saunders; her best friends Merrill Boone, Rose White, Mary Thomas and Cathy Brown, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Her departure is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her.
On Friday, February 16, 2024 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. On Saturday, February 17, 2024 a Celebration of Life will be held 1pm at Christian Home Baptist Church, Windsor, VA. Interment following the service in the church cemetery. Please keep the Williams family in your prayers.
