Obituary

We mourn the passing of Dannetha ”Doretha” Turner, 81, who was born on February 14, 1944 and peacefully left this world on February 20, 2025 in Newport News, Virginia.

Dannetha was a beloved mother to five children: Louise Wynn and spouse Boosie, Linda Harris, Anthony Harris, Jimmie Harris and Gloria Tuner and spouse Lloyd Hicks. She was a cherished grandmother to 16 adoring grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, James Turner, Frances Turner, Douglas Turner, Alberta Johnson, Mildred Redmond and Lillian Weaver. 

Throughout her life, Dannetha touched the heart of those around her with kindness, compassion and unwavering strength. She will be remembered for her love of family, dedication to her community and her infectious laughter that could brighten even the darkest of days.

Dannetha enjoyed countless days of laughter and sharing life stories with Anita Moore who was fortunate to know her. Her spirit will forever soar in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Knowing that Dannetha was deeply loved and will be dearly missed, may she rest in peace.

A Memorial Service will be held 11am on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Shivers Funeral Chapel.  Please keep the Turner family in your prayers.
