Catherine Young Ricks

Catherine E. Young-Ricks (Shug) 82, of 51 Norris Street, Windsor, Va., transitioned to be with the Lord on March 24, 2017, surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was born on May 12, 1934 to the late Hurley and Estelle Young. She was known for her work ethics that she put in J. C. Sessoms Farm, dance moves and smiles that she placed on the face of others. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, the late Rev. James T. Ricks Sr., her son George R. Ricks Sr., sisters Daisy Young, Lucille Baker, Lois Allmond, Essie Young and Janice Allen. She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, where Christ was the head of her life for many years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Blondell(Jackson), James (Annette), Barbara (Charlie), Larry (Lisha), Charles(Maria), Carolyn and Daryl(Traci); thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-eight great grandchildren; six sisters, Virginia(Vernon), Helen, Carrie, Joyce(Butch), Lisa, Mary; two brothers, Hurley Jr. (Mary) and John (Terri) and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thank you to her caretakers Sharon Ricks, Linda Benton, Rachel Holliman, Shakila Jackson, and Stanley's Personal Touch Family. A Service to Celebrate her life will be held 12:00pm Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, Va. Viewing will be held from 4-7pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the chapel.
